Telconet Latam Group announces loading of the CSN-1 submarine cable aboard the Ile de Sein vessel
Telconet Latam Group of Ecuador announces that, two weeks ago, the loading of the CSN-1 submarine cable began aboard the Ile de Sein, a vessel owned by the French company Alcatel Submarine Networks S.A. (ASN), the system’s supplier. This operation is currently underway at ASN’s facilities in Calais, France, where the ship is presently docked.
The CSN-1 (Carnival Submarine Network-1) is a next-generation submarine cable system, based on ASN’s Open Cable technology. In its first phase, it will connect the west coast of Florida (United States) with Colombia, Panama, and Ecuador, via more than 4,600 kilometers of undersea fiber optic cable.
Once the full length of the cable has been loaded onto the Ile de Sein, the vessel will set sail for the Caribbean, where the marine lay operation will begin. The cable laying is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.
The CSN-1 will land in new cable landing stations in the aforementioned countries, designed with the capacity to operate as Edge Data Centers. The system’s route and landing design will support the need for low latency and diverse paths, which are increasingly required by new AI-powered applications.
The landing stations are expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2026, when the CSN-1 system will reach Ready for Service (RFS).
In subsequent phases, the CSN-1 system will be extended to Cancún (Mexico), as well as to Peru and Chile, establishing a strategic digital corridor linking North, Central, and South America.
CSN-1 stands out as the only submarine cable system currently under construction in the Americas by a Latin American operator.
With this milestone, Telconet Latam reaffirms its commitment to the development of critical infrastructure for a more interconnected, resilient region prepared for the digital economy of the future.
