Alcatel Submarine Networks and Telconet Latam announce the achievement of some relevant milestones in the construction of the CSN1 Submarine Cable

Guayaquil, Ecuador. Septembre 11, 2024

Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) and Telconet Latam are pleased to announce the successful achievement of three significant milestones in the construction of the CSN1 submarine cable: all branching units, repeaters, as well as sea cables, have been fully manufactured and are currently in the process of being assembled and tested. CSN1 will be the first submarine cable to land on the West Coast of Florida. This system will establish crucial connections between the United States, Colombia, Panama, and Ecuador, with additional branching units strategically placed for future expansions. The CSN1 system is built on cutting-edge Open Cable technology, featuring multiple optical fiber pairs designed to meet the region's growing broadband demands. CSN1 is also the first submarine cable incorporating Open Cable technology to be deployed in Central and South America, that has already obtained from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), a license to land and operate.
Carlos Pazmiño, Telconet's CSN-1 Project Manager, expresses his appreciation to Alcatel Submarine Networks and the dedicated professional team to delivering these key stages on time and to the highest standards of quality, which will be instrumental in ensuring the project's ultimate success

Olivier Chambon, VP Projects of ASN, explained that, "Manufacturing completion is a key step in subsea system as it often represents the first tangible outcome of preparatory steps and marine survey results. It undergoes rigorous testing sequence to ensure the reliability of the many years of undersea services ahead. ASN is now preparing the system installation to strengthen the communications in the Americas region."
Indeed, the next planned activities include cable loading and marine operations, which are scheduled primarily for the first half of 2025. Once completed, CSN1 will span over 4,500 kilometers in its initial phase, providing an express route between the United States, Colombia, Panama, and Ecuador.
